How do I get from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to downtown New Orleans?

You can catch the E-2 Airport Bus (operated by Jefferson Transit) on the upper level at the Airport. This bus will take you to Tulane and Loyola Avenues in downtown New Orleans, which is two blocks from Canal Street. The fare on this bus is $1.60 one-way. For more information on the E-2 Airport Bus, go to www.jeffersontransit.org.

How many public transit agencies are there in the New Orleans area?

There are two primary operators: RTA (www.norta.com), which operates buses and streetcars in New Orleans and Kenner, and Jefferson Transit (www.jefferso ntransit.org), which serves suburban Jefferson Parish, including Metairie, Gretna, Terrytown, Harvey, and Marrero.

What is the fare on RTA buses and streetcars?

The standard fare on RTA buses and streetcars is $1.25 one-way, with an additional $0.25 for a transfer.

Are RTA passes available?

Yes. A one-day pass costs $5.00. A three-day pass costs $12.00. A monthly pass is available for $55.00. A pack of tokens cost $12.50. Click on "Unlimited Ride Passes” in the left hand column on the home page for locations where passes and tokens can be purchased.

Are passes available for use on both RTA and Jefferson Transit buses?

Not at this time.

Is a permit required for using the bike rack on an RTA bus?

Yes. You can obtain a bike permit by coming to the RTA ID Center at 2817 Canal Street in New Orleans. There is no charge.

How do I qualify for a Senior Citizen or Disabled Reduced Fare ID card?

Senior citizens can come to the ID Center and present a Medicare card and Driver’s License or State ID. Those under 65 can present a Driver’s License or State ID and Social Security Award Letter. The reduced fare with the ID card is $0.40 with free transfers.

Visitors to the City can qualify for reduced fare by presenting a Medicare card and Driver’s License or State ID.

Does RTA have a paratransit service?

Yes. A curb-to-curb service is provided for those who meet ADA’s Eligibility Guidelines. A person must be certified to use the service. Click on “Paratransit” on the left hand side of the home page for more information. The fare is $2.00 per one-way trip.

When will the St. Charles Streetcar Line resume operation?

A project is currently underway to replace the overhead electrical system on the St. Charles Line, which was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Service has resumed on the section of the St. Charles Line between Canal Street and Lee Circle. Service should be restored to Napoleon Avenue by late summer 2007. Full service should resume on the St. Charles Line sometime in 2008.

How do I get from the Amtrak Station to Canal Street?

From the Amtrak Station, cross Loyola Avenue and catch the #28 MLK Bus at Loyola and Howard Avenues. This bus will take you to Canal Street.

How do I get from the Airport to the Cruise Ship Terminal on Julia Street?

Catch the E-2 Airport Bus from the Airport to Elk Place and Tulane Avenue in downtown New Orleans. Walk from Elk Place and Tulane to Canal Street and catch either the #42 Canal Bus or #47-48 Canal Street going toward the Mississippi River. Get off the Canal Bus or Streetcar at Canal and Magazine Streets, and catch either the #10 Tchoupitoulas Bus or #11 Magazine Bus. Get off the bus at Julia Street and walk down Julia Street toward the Mississippi River to the Cruise Ship Terminal.
